Applications are invited for a one year Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology commencing July 2015 at Wellington Regional Hospital, Wellington, New Zealand. The position would suit a senior Registrar wishing to expand their experience in Interventional Cardiology.
Wellington Hospital performs approximately 1000 Interventional Cardiology procedures per annum, operates a primary PCI programme, and has access to state of the art equipment including IVUS and OCT. Aside from coronary stenting, the appointee may expect involvement and training in radial access, closure devices, CTOs, rotablader, mitral and aortic valvuloplasties, PFO/ASD and LAA closure.
The successful candidate will be involved in the preparation and performance of interventional procedures, and care of the patient following the procedure, as well as outpatient clinics, research, audit, and database duties. This includes responsibility for the ANZACsQI database. The Interventional fellow can expect to act as primary operator in excess of 500 cases.
Candidates will have completed their advanced training in Cardiology (FRACP, MRCP (UK) or equivalent), and will have been in Specialist Training in Cardiology for a minimum of two years. Full competency at diagnostic angiography is a pre-requisite, and experience assisting PCI an advantage. The candidate will require to be registered within a provisional general scope or special purpose scope of practice with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
Wellington Hospital is a major teaching hospital and provides specialist tertiary level care to the central North Island comprising a population of 1 million people. This hospital facility includes two cardiac catheter laboratories, a dedicated electrophysiology procedure suite, a day procedure ward and a 36 bed combined cardiac speciality ward incorporating a CCU and Cardiothoracic high dependency unit.
Based in Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city, you will be in the cultural hub of the country. With a population of 350,000 Wellington is situated on a magnificent harbour and framed by hills.
