Supervisor: Dr Saqib Chowdhary (saqib.chowdhary@uhsm.nhs.uk)

Overview

A senior trainee position to gain advanced training in all aspects of complex coronary intervention including primary PCI, rotablation, thrombectomy, embolic protection and good exposure to IVUS, FFR and OCT. Additionally the post holder will be involved in the co-ordination and care of patients passing through our transcatheter aortic valve implantation program and will be able to assist in procedures.

Wythenshawe Hospital provides tertiary cardiac services to the South Manchester and North Cheshire area and is supported by on-site Cardiothoracic surgery and an active cardiac transplant unit. The angioplasty program delivers around 1400 PCIs/yr and the unit has 4 Cardiac Catheter Laboratories. The Fellow works with a team of 6 in-house interventional cardiologists who perform a wide range of acute and complex elective PCI including 24/7 primary PCI for a population of 2m. There is an active structural program including ASD/PFO closure, a mature TAVI program, and a percutaneous mitral valve clip program. Wythenshawe has an excellent reputation for training successful cardiac interventionists and the current post-holder has averaged 450 PCI cases/yr with a breadth of training that would rival many international fellowships. This post will significantly advance your training whether you are pre or post CST.

Candidates should have undergone at least 3 years specialist training in general cardiology and have basic proficiency in coronary intervention. The Fellow will join the middle grade non-resident on-call roster to provide general cardiology out of hours cover including support for emergent PCI.
